Effective January 1, 2026, Maryland's HB 1600 requires all licensed beauty professionals to complete 6 hours of approved continuing education before renewing their license. That includes:
- Senior Cosmetologists
- Cosmetologists
- Limited Hairstylists
- Limited Estheticians
- Limited Nail Technicians
- Limited Blow-Dry Stylists

What You Need to Know
6 total CE hours required,
structured like this:
Required 2 hrsHealth, Safety, Welfare, Sanitation, Board Laws & Regulations
Elective 4 hrsBusiness, Cosmetology, Esthetics, Nail Techniques, Product Knowledge
Timing matters: All 6 hours must be completed within your current renewal term — not just before your expiration date. For example, if your license runs February 1, 2024 – February 1, 2026, all hours must be completed within that window.
Domestic Violence Awareness: All licensees are also required to complete a 1-hour Domestic Violence Awareness training through a Board-approved provider.
